My favorite candidate is Eric Thomason, who is running for Lexington’s Third District council seat. Eric is committed to not only making the Third District a better place to live and work, but making Lexington as a whole a better place as well. He has been heavily involved in issues facing the Third District and Lexington for years, and knows the problems we need to address to move successfully forward. Eric will communicate with a variety of individuals to ensure that all are included in Lexington’s decisionmaking process.

Eric has the knowledge and the energy to commit himself fully to representing the Third District. I will proudly cast my vote for Eric Thomason on May 20 and encourage others to do the same.

My favorite candidate in our local election is Diane Lawless for 3rd district council member. I have known Diane for quite some time and have always been amazed how much she gives of herself to the Lexington community while expecting nothing in return. We especially need someone with a solid background in community service like Diane to have a voice on our council. There are going to be a lot of attempts to recklessly change the landscape of our city and we need someone who has over 25 years of working with and through the local bureaucracy to protect the neighborhoods we have all grown to love in the downtown area. Let’s do it right the first time!

  5. Nick Kouns Says:

My favorite candidate in our local election, by far, is Diane Lawless. I have worked with Diane on several projects, including her work for the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center, the strategic planning committee at the Lexington Art League, the establishment of the resurrected Lexington Shakespeare Festival, and the list goes on and on. She has a long solid history of working in politics at the local, state, and national level. (How many people do you know that helped actually write and draft the VOCA legislation (Victims of Crimes Act)? Her methodical, rational, and effective policies speak loudly and clearly about her experience, her level-headedness, and her vigilance. She has an interest in Lexington as a whole, and not just narrow-interest subgroups…she has shown years of dedication to the arts, the social welfare, and the economic interests of the community. She never underestimates the power of the human spirit, and in my estimation, that sets, square-on, as the candidate of choice.

  6. Gail Keam Says:

I support Diane Lawless for City Council. I have know Diane for thirty years. She was then and is now a person of intregrity. We need more elected officials like Ms. Lawless who have a deep understanding of many issues facing our community. I believe that food is going to be a hugh issue in the near future. Ms. Lawless is already working with the Lexington Farmers Market to secure a permament home and to upgrade their services to the community. She is always ahead of the curve. Who would have thought four months ago that there would be a rush on rice in the local stores? We need her kind of leadership - not someone who is interested in putting up the next mall.

  7. Diane Fleet Says:

I am excited to offer my support to Diane Lawless for 3rd District City Council. I have known Diane for many years and respected her work within the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center. The reason I believe Diane is the best candidate for this position however is her tireless dedication and service to the community. Diane enters the political arena in a collaborative spirit yet always carries with her a vision of a vital Lexington. I believe that as the 3rd District representative she will create a space for open and honest debate and bring an educated and insightful presence to the topics that impact our city. Lexington is currently at a critical point in its development. Having a person of Diane’s caliber on city council is necessary if we are to wisely respond to the issues before us

  8. Thomas Tolliver Says:

I support Diane Lawless for 3rd district council and think she will make an intelligent and experienced addition to our city council. Knowledge is a great asset to have, but the experience to use it in the proper manner is an even greater resource. Diane possesses these two great qualities and has proven to be a great leader and a crusader for the arts in our community. When we go vote on the 20th, do not take a chance on unproven leadership. Vote on someone with a proven track record of supporting a better Lexington. Vote for Diane!

  9. Ann Olliges Says:

Diane Lawless for 3rd district council!Diane is a proven leader, during her 26 years as director of the Rape Crisis Center she lead the center from a $30,000 annual budget to that of $1,000,000. Diane has a passion and enthusiasm for any project she chooses to tackle. Her advocacy work has given her political experience at the state, local and national levels. Many difficult decisions will face this city council. We need the integrity, perseverance and passion that Diane will bring to represent the members of the 3rd district.
